In part 1 I provided a list of job opportunities that I believe will be growing in demand for years to come.
In this article, I continue providing details to support my assumptions about these 10 job opportunities for men.
4. Disaster Preparation, Recovery and Cleanup
Natural disasters are increasing in magnitude and frequency all around the world.
Just last week China had another 7.1 magnitude earthquake that they are still trying to assess the damages from and this week Iceland has a volcano eruption that virtually shut down air travel across the Atlantic Ocean for several days.
The cleanup and recovery efforts from these natural disasters will take many years and increase the demand on hand tools and muscle.
Several years ago when hurricane Katrina hit the southern coast; several local manufacturing businesses suddenly had two years worth of orders for everything from hand tools like rakes and shovels to plastic gas tanks for generators and carrying small quantities of gas.
Since then, most of the orders for these products have continued because of the increase in natural disasters all around the world.
Several studies now show that earthquakes, famines and plagues have been increasing for the past several decades.
I would bet that jobs at local tool manufacturers will continue to grow even as the global recession deepens. This is a great place to look for a job.
The global financial meltdown and the increase in natural disasters also cause location specific economic disruptions.
Those disruptions that disturb a consistency way of life cause people to move to different places that appear to provide more opportunities, better jobs and a place to recover and adjust to the changes that have taken place.
This is happening right now as millions are moving from places with high unemployment and high taxes like California and Florida and Michigan to states where they have more favorable jobs and better opportunities to start a business – with lower taxes and/or regulations.
Moving companies are seeing tremendous growth as the demand to help people move is approaching a generational high. This is another great industry to look for a job, but you will need a strong back to lift boxes and heavy home items. This is the perfect opportunity for young healthy men to sell their muscles.
In the anticipation of the increase in natural disasters, work is needed to prepare for the storage of supplies and civil unrest.
That work is being done on the personal level as well as the national level. The survival blogs are going crazy with interested readers that are buying survival products from garden seeds to storage shelves.
On a national level, the government is busy building up supplies and storage facilities. Recovery and cleanup create demand for labor and construction equipment to remove debris from streets, restore water systems, transport medical and food supplies, etc. Basically an increase in the demand on the National Guard.
These are several pockets within the economy that jobs are being created with the increase in demand from the growing trend of crisis and reaction. Many governments are not prepared to deal with the recent increase in disasters and are therefore looking for the private sector to help fill the needs.
This is a great time to start a business or find a job that helps people or nations prepare for the current and the future disasters.
In Part 6, I’m going to continue providing detail about these jobs and why I think demand will continue to grow.
